Bruce McCandless untethered space walk

In February 1984, Bruce McCandless made the first, untethered, free flight using the Manned Maneuvering Unit, or MMU for short. He flew free in space to a maximum distance of about 320 feet away from the Space Shuttle. The MMU was essentially a nitrogen jet propelled backpack.
